Week 9 Update

Week 9: Baby is the size of an olive!

Week 9: Baby is the size of an olive!

Well, there hasn’t been much news over here, other than it is getting harder to keep this a secret! Geoff and I had planned on waiting until we hit 12 weeks to let everyone know (including both our bosses), but at this point it has become such a hassle not to tell that I think we are going to tell everyone on Wednesday (10 weeks). So now the all-important question: How do I announce this on Facebook?

I have found a few cute ideas from other people I know, but I just don’t know. I guess I’ll let you know on Wednesday! How did you tell Facebook you were expecting?

I can tell you one thing for sure: I am so ready for this nausea to be gone. It is supposed to go away after the first trimester, and if that is the case then I only have 2-3 more weeks of this to go.

I’ve also been having trouble sleeping, which does not help the fact that I’m exhausted basically all the time. I wake up extremely warm and covered in sweat, so I take of the covers, and soon I’m shivering and have to put them back over me. Apparently this is common during pregnancy and they are called “night sweats.” Yuck. I’m hoping that now that the weather is finally getting nice that we can leave a window or two open at night to keep it cooler in the room, plus I’m taking the extra blanket off the bed tonight. Wish me luck!

Week 9 according to What to Expect:

Your baby is busy building muscle, but all you may want to do these days is take a nice long nap.

Your Baby in Week 9 of Pregnancy

Your baby, now the size of a green olive, has grown about an inch since last week. Tiny muscles are beginning to form, so while he might not be ready to pump iron, he’s gearing up to move his arms and legs. It’s still too soon to feel anything in your belly, but you might be able to hear something at your next checkup. Try listening for your baby’s heartbeat via a Doppler device — that welcome sound should be audible anytime now.

Your Body in Week 9 of Pregnancy

Chances are you’ve never felt so tired in your life and for good reason: Your body is working overtime preparing for motherhood as it develops the placenta, your baby’s lifeline. At the same time, your metabolism and hormone levels are surging, which triggers a decrease in blood sugar and blood pressure. The result of all this: pregnancy fatigue. Relief is around the corner as your energy level increases (and morning sickness decreases) over the next few weeks once placenta construction is completed.
